A Happier Easter

I don’t know about anyone else, but the holidays tend to give me anxiety. Not necessarily about being with family or all the preparation, but all the waste that goes along with it! Easter is no exception either. From candy to useless gifts and large meals, there’s a ton of waste. But it doesn’t have to be. Like most holidays, I’m a believer in less is more. Less toys, more time together. Less candy and more homemade treats. I think you get the point.

My blog is all about ways to create a happy and healthy home. More ‘stuff’ typically doesn’t make people feel good. It often stress’s people out! Also, the more items you bring into your home could result in toxins entering your home. So let’s be conscious about how you’re spending your Easter this year.

A few suggestions:

  1. If you have kids, opt for reusable natural material baskets or reuse a basket you already have in your home.
  2. Another swap for those egg hunts- instead of plastic eggs, you can find compostable eggs or wooden eggs that can last for next year.
  3. Skip individually wrapped candy and have baked goods instead. Did you know according to a 2018 study, 3,000 tons of trash is created every year from chocolate Easter eggs!
  4. Rethink your dyed eggs. First, make sure you are using nontoxic dye coloring. Many aren’t, so be careful. These are an option. Also, as a vegan we don’t eat eggs so I’ve opted to use wooded eggs to color. And now have turned into toys for my daughter’s kitchen.
  5. Lastly, get out and enjoy the warmer weather. This is why egg hunts are a great idea, they get the whole family outside together. Head to the park, have a picnic, or color your eggs on your porch. Less time inside, means less energy being consumed.

What are your favorite Easter traditions? With a little thought, I’m sure there’s a way to make it more sustainable. Share in the comments below so we can all learn together.
