Can pets equal a healthy home?

In May, we adopted a 6 month puppy. EEK! It wasn’t in our plans- at all- but if you follow rescue organizations enough on social media, I guess you’re bound to fall in love one day! Our current dog, Phillip is now called uncle Phil and helping to teach Charlie how to be a good dog.

Charlie is not potty trained. He’s not horrible, but he’s not great. During the first few days of constantly finding and cleaning up pee, I want to share some ways your home can stay healthy and happy as a pet owner. First, if it’s just pee I use old towels to clean up instead of paper towels. I could have used more than a roll of paper-towels at this point, which is just a waste! We have a ton of towels in the laundry room that I use to clean up various things in the house, including dog pee now. Secondly, avoid toxins to clean up and stick to the basics; baking soda is great for deodorizing. I also have on hand for bigger messes, BioKleen that uses enzymes to break down odors.

Having a puppy around has also made our girls clean up their toys a little faster. The threat of a dog chewing one of their toys keeps the house a little more tidy and Charlie safe from swallowing things he shouldn’t. And keeps mommy sane.

Both of our pups require grooming. I like to brush them outside to keep dander and hair there instead of inside. I also routinely vacuum our floors that includes a HEPA filter and regularly turn on my whole house purifier.

Lastly, we are enjoying the puppy, getting some more exercise, laughing and making memories! Now to me, that’s a happy home.

Thank you Philly Rescue Angels for letting us adopt Sir Charles ❤
