Small and attainable

I’ve been in a rut. I haven’t written for a few weeks and my goal has been to write a new post at least 2 times a month. I’m disappointed in myself.  But with that said, I have also given myself grace, because there’s not sense in dwelling on it. So instead, now I’m fixing it.

I’ve been busy with selling houses, meeting new clients, helping my agents with their 2023 goals and so on and so on… Mostly though, I’m wasn’t sure what to write! I need to remind myself that it doesn’t have to be a huge breakthrough idea. As I’ve thought about it for a few weeks, I realized I basically post every Tuesday for my tuesday tips (@KSKRealEstate)- small and attainable changes you can do every day to make an impact. What a great topic for starting a new year! But, I know change can be hard for people. Habits are hard to create and stop.

Are you one of the many that doesn’t start a new habit because it seems too daunting? Going from 0 to 100 is daunting! That is why I love the idea of stacking habits. This is essentially the process of combining your current habits with ones you want to start. You take a habit you already do every day, and pair it with a simple one you want to do every day. For example, if you want to read more, get an audible book for when you’re driving to work. Or if you want to drink more water, drink a glass of water while making your coffee in the morning (I actually fill my coffee cup up with water to drink while I wait for my coffee). Get the idea?

So how can you do this to create a more happy and healthy home? First, you need to prioritize what your ultimate goal is. Here are some suggestions to get your started:

  1. Goal- Reduce clothing waste. Second hand shop before you head online or to Target. Browse Facebook Marketplace instead of Amazon, visit local consignment or thrift shop, ask around, etc.
  2. Goal- Reduce meat consumption. Make your Taco Tuesday meat free! It’s a simple meal swap. Why would you want to reduce meat consumption? Eating less meat is a great way to cut down on your environmental impact. It can also save on your grocery bills.
  3. Goal- Reduce electric bill. Unplug when you’re done curling your hair, making coffee, toasting your bread. If it’s not in use, unplug it.
  4. Goal- Reduce indoor air quality. Love burning candles? Switch to essential oils. Or make your own all purpose cleaner instead of those store toxin induced cleaners.

Once you start a habit, it starts to get easier and I truly think the stacking method can help you. Comment below with your favorite small and attainable habits! And if you need help to get started, you can always reach out to me directly.
