Baby Steps

Transforming your home and lifestyle can feel overwhelming. And when I get overwhelmed, I often change my focus or completely stop. I’m sure I’m not alone. You don’t have to live a zero waste life, make every meal from scratch or even ban straws forever. First, decide what is important to you, prioritize those things, then start making small changes every day.

Where do you being to even decide what’s important? Well…

Are you expecting a baby and want to make sure the nursery is natural and safe?

Do you want to reduce your overall waste?

Do you want to reduce your monthly utility bills and become more energy efficient?

Is your carbon footprint impact the most important to you?

Once you have a main goal, then dive into HOW to get started.

For me, it started with my nursery. I wanted to make sure it was as toxin free as possible. Then it evolved over time. Becoming a parent I definitely lived by my sanity is worth more than doing ‘X.’ For example, I wasn’t a cloth diaper parent. I knew for me, we would be out and about a lot and changing cloth diapers while out taking her on house tours, inspections or settlements was not going to be easy. I did a lot of research to find diapers that made me feel comfortable.

Here are some small baby steps that you can start today that makes an impact:

-Compost- either do it yourself in your yard or hire a 3rd party to pick up (check out my resource page for some local recommendations).

-Eat less meat. Eat at least one 100% plant based meal a day. This helps the environment, your health and wallet

-Make your own every day cleaner. Some water, vinegar and essential oils

-Buy less- think twice before buying that outfit, toy, homegood, etc. Less is more and you may not actually need that item if you pause before buying

– Drive less. Whether that means taking more zoom appointments, biking to the store or lumping errands into 1 day a week.

What I hope you take away from this post is to start with something- smaller the better as it will likely stick for the long-haul. Good luck!!

I’d love to hear how your journey started in the comments below.
